*_RULING ON ACCEPTING INVITATIONS_*

*It was narrated in Saheeh al-Bukhaari (1164) and Saheeh Muslim (4022) that Abu Hurayrah (might Allaah be happy with him) stated: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: ‘The rights of a Muslim over his fellow Muslim are five: returning greetings, visiting the sick, attending funerals, accepting invitations, and saying Yarhamuk Allaah (may Allaah have mercy on you) when he sneezes.’”*

_The students divided the invites which the Muslim is commanded to just accept into two classes:_

_1 – Invitation to a marriage celebration (waleemah). The majority of students stated that it’s compulsory to just accept such an invite, until there’s a official shar’i excuse – some such excuses shall be talked about beneath, in sha Allaah._

_The proof (daleel) that it’s compulsory to just accept these invites is the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (4779) and Muslim (2585) from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated: “The worst kind of food is the food of a wedding feast that is withheld from those who would come and to which people are invited who may refuse it. Whoever does not accept the invitation has disobeyed Allaah and His Messenger.”_

_2 – Invitation to numerous sorts of gatherings aside from wedding-feasts. The majority of students say that accepting these invites is mustahabb, and nobody differed from that aside from a few of the Shaafa’is and Zaahiris, who stated it’s compulsory. If we are saying that it’s strongly mustahabb that’s shut sufficient. And Allaah is aware of greatest._

*But the students have stipulated situations for accepting an invite; if these situations are usually not met then it’s not compulsory or mustahabb to just accept the invitation, somewhat it could be haraam to attend. These situations had been summed up by Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen, who stated:*

_1 There ought to be nothing objectionable (munkar) within the place the place the celebration and so on. is to be held. If there’s something objectionable and it’s potential to take away it, then it’s compulsory to attend for 2 causes: to just accept the invitation and to vary the objectionable factor. If it’s not potential to take away it then it’s haraam to attend._

_2 The one who invited him shouldn’t be somebody whom it’s compulsory or Sunnah to forsake (similar to one who brazenly commits immoral actions or sin, the place forsaking him could also be of profit in bringing about his repentance)._

_3 The one who invited him ought to be a Muslim. If he’s not, then it’s not compulsory to just accept the invitation, as a result of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated: “The rights of a Muslim over his fellow Muslim are five…”_

_4 The meals supplied ought to be permissible for us to eat._

_5 Accepting the invitation shouldn’t result in ignoring a extra necessary obligation; if that’s the case then it’s haraam to just accept the invitation._

_6 It shouldn’t trigger any hassle to the one that is invited. For instance, if he must journey or to go away his household who want him there, and so forth. (al-Qawl al-Mufeed, 3/111)._

*Some students added:*

_7 If the host issued a normal invitation, saying that everybody is welcome, then it’s not compulsory to just accept the invitation._

*Women also needs to word that they need to ask their husband’s permission to exit to events and so on. to which they’re invited. One ought to solely attend a celebration inwhichAllah is remembered. For the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) warned us of the results of attending gatherings during which Allaah will not be talked about.*

_He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated: “No people sit in a gathering in which they do not remember Allaah or send blessings upon their Prophet, but they will regret it, if He wills He will punish them and if He wills He will forgive them.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3302; he stated, this can be a saheeh hasan hadeeth. It was additionally classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 3/140)_

_May Allah forgive us our sins. Aameeen._
